Camper vans have soared in popularity over the last few years. However, when we were looking for a camper which ticked all the boxes from our personal point of view, many fell short of what we had in mind. This got us thinking and inspired us to create a camper design of our own … we are excited to present the W214!
The W214 started life as a regular Fiat Ducato 35 Maxi, XLWB, (4L2H) panel van.
The ability to camp off-grid all year round utilising solar power, to have plenty of space for outdoor gear and, most importantly, to have ample room for our four-legged friends, were all at the top of our list of priorities when planning our design.
The width of the vehicle was important because it meant we could install a full-sized bed across the back of the van … a fixed, king sized, comfortable bed. No messing around at the end of the day converting seating to a bed, just climb on in, snuggle under the duvet, lie down on the comfortable, memory foam mattress … and relax!
Also on the list were heating and hot water, proper cooking facilities, a decent sized fridge, a shower/WC cubicle (with proper plumbing, not just a standard, camping porta-potty!), comfortable seating for relaxing and dining, a practical-sized kitchen sink and of course, storage for our clothes, food, kitchen and camping equipment.
The challenge was to fit all of this in. We wanted a spacious feel. We wanted quality. We think we’ve done it!
Why did we name our design the W214? One of our greatest loves is the Lake District and Wainwright’s 214 fells are our favourite stomping ground … hence W214!
We offer a completely bespoke service. We don’t work to templates and we don’t mass-produce. If you choose us, your van conversion will be a one-off and will be built specifically for you. As a guide and dependent upon your particular specifications, for a camper conversion along the lines of the W214 we would anticipate a three-month build time and a budget of £40k+ would be required (excluding vehicle purchase price and VAT).
We would highly recommend sourcing a van which is both mechanically and structurally sound before embarking on your van conversion journey! We opted to purchase a brand new van for our demonstration vehicle. We wanted to be sure that the vehicle would be up to the job when considering the time and money which would be invested in the build.
More photographs of our demonstration vehicle and a detailed list of features will be
added very soon … watch this space!
If you would like to discuss your bespoke van to camper conversion with us or you would like to make
an appointment to view ‘Frank’, our demonstration vehicle, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
